Born in Israel, 1975
Lives and works in Tel Aviv Artsy

As if with a fetishistic formula, Amon Yariv creates, in his studio, landscape sights that no-one has ever seen. He directs our gaze to this "placeless place", where we, the spectators, are positioned on a floating raft which has resigned itself to the infinite motion of the waves that are washing away the images, the "cultural treasures" from within. Just as in a religious ritual site of a lost and forgotten community, where deeply secret and maybe obscene ceremonies of faith rituals are held, images appear to have undergone a process of secularization, composed for their own purpose highlighting the tension between knowledge and faith, perhaps even in the denial of faith. This temple, this "placeless place", is a "place within a place". Amon Yariv creates a symbolic pattern of experience that discharges itself from its utopist intention through the grotesque gaze. The materials that Yariv uses are 'his' natural resources with which he strides on the imagined border between the infinite, eternal, apocalyptic passion and, the lifeless impotency of pure possibilities.
